EarOpeners

Hello world! Let me try and open some doors to internet music exploration, isn't that the goal? Through time there hasn't been a better time to be an explorer of music. Our current capabilities to access music files and databases worldwide are unbelievable and inspiring. I couldn't imagine not being able to buy or download music instantly and we are very lucky for this opportunity. Very lucky not to sift through the crates. I've done a tiny bit of exploration and I would love to share some great websites I've stumbled upon to find new music. Some are obvious and some aren't. Please post other sources of music exploration as comments if relevant.

If you are searching exclusively on the internet for specific Mp3's try these sites. Some only allow online streaming while others, like plorf, allow for direct download of the actual Mp3's. Great for when you are away from your personal music library.

great place and they offer weekend mixes.

pay attention to the end of the year lists as they will start to pop up here in about two weeks. pitchfork has some great end of year lists such as: top 100 singles of the year, top 50 albums, etc etc. if you can get over their smarmy diction in their reviews then these are great ways to subject yourself to new music. the top singles list has links to each song in downloadable-mp3, streaming audio, or youtube video. the list runs the gamut of music released in the year but you can bet that there will be some indie rock, some electronica, some mainstream rap, mainstream female r&b, and gobs of pop music (not top 40 pop). i feel like i'm cheating whenever i rifle through this list because i don't have to do anything but open the webpage and BAM i have 20 new bands or albums that i must download.

    diatribe over
